The Joomla content management system divides web pages into different parts. Various items of content can be shown in each of these parts. Joomla has its own terminology which describes the parts. It's easier to talk about them using an example, this screenshot shows the BEEZ template after a standard installation.
In the next screenshot the Joomla module position have been overlaid and named to show where they are.
Each module position can hold more than one piece of content. For instance the left module shown here contains the following: - Main menu
- Resources menu
- Key concepts menu
- Login form
Looking over to the right hand side, there are four module positions in the right-hand column, these are: - Top module position, containing the Newsflash
- User 1 module position, containing Latest news
- User 2 module position, containing Popular items
- Right module position, containing the poll, Who's online and Advertisment.
This is a very flexible arrangement which means you can put things into different positions on the page very easily.
